Hygienic areas: coordinate cleaning and lighting

Food production and other sensitive spaces require attention to materials, geometry and cleaning procedures.

A high ingress protection rating describes enclosure testing against specified dust and water exposure. It does not automatically establish resistance to every cleaning chemical or suitability for every hygienic area. Material approvals and actual operating conditions need separate checks.

Specify cleaning agents, concentration, temperature, pressure and frequency. Covers, seals, fixings and places where dirt might collect all matter. Requirements such as shatter resistance or special production zones should be agreed with the operator.

Installation should allow cleaning and maintenance without creating unnecessarily inaccessible spaces. Product approval always relates to defined conditions; later cleaning changes may require reassessment. System records should therefore identify not only the luminaire model but also the agreed operating and cleaning conditions so maintenance teams can preserve the intended suitability.

What to clarify for your project

  • Record cleaning methods and chemicals.
  • Request material and application approvals.
  • Consider access and later process changes.

Remember: Assess hygienic suitability against the complete cleaning and operating scenario.
